19 Women’s Groups Call for Perez Confirmation

Last night, 19 women’s organizations came together to call on the Senate to confirm Tom Perez to be the next Labor Secretary.

In a letter to the help committee, organizations like the National Women’s Law Center, the National Partnership for Women and Families, the National Council of Jewish Women, and many more note the exemplary work that Assistant Attorney General has done to enforce laws that ensure equal protection for women.

The letter details a long list of Department of Justice activities under Perez’s leadership, including “challenged pay discrimination and pregnancy discrimination by public employers; litigated groundbreaking Title IX sexual harassment complaints against public schools, colleges, and universities; challenged discriminatory barriers for women working in nontraditional fields in state and local government, investigated sex discrimination by law enforcement agencies; brought numerous cases to enforce the Fair Housing Act’s prohibition of sex discrimination; and protected women’s ability to obtain essential health care without physical harm, harassment or intimidation under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.”
